About Kelly Peyton, MA, LPC-S, RPT-S:  Teen Counselor

“Everything is just so hard.” “My child is out of control.” “I’m so tired of feeling this way.” These types of statements often reflect the type of feelings Kelly’s clients have before seeking a teen counselor. Whether parenting a difficult child, struggling with addictions, or suffering from mood or thought disorders, Kelly has a compassionate healing approach tailored to identify problems and solutions through the teen counseling process. Kelly is a teen counselor providing services to clients both individually, and in groups such as the Teen Intervention Program (TIP).  She provides therapy in a supportive and caring environment focused on helping client’s to reach their goals and overcome life obstacles.

Kelly’s TIP group offers an option for treating teens in couseling that may need more intensive care than weekly sessions alone may offer, yet do not need intensive outpatient or inpatient treatments.  Examples include teens stepping down from intensive outpatient programs, recently discharged teens, teens needing additional sessions, or teens needing additional support as an adjuct to individual treatment.  Additionally, teens often respond to a group treatment format better than individual teen counseling making this a viable stand alone treatment.  This may be especially true for issues such as substance abuse, anger-management, and grief addressed weekly in the program.

Kelly is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).  Kelly has thousands of hours of training focused on working specifically with teenagers and children using some of the latest research and clinical data.  Some of her specialized training includes certification in play therapy, certification as a trauma specialist, training in Theraplay, complete EMDR training, DBT, and a brain based approach called the Neurosequential Model of therapeutics.  She is currently a director at West Houston Counseling Center serving Houston and the Katy area and helping to train and equip the next generation of child and adolescent counselors.
